curved traces questions

Sniper2 , 01-10-2026, 10:40 AM
So i need to design DDR4 and 10 Gbps SERDES link . do i need to use rounded traces or 45 deg traces are still ok for my speeds?
Also is there a way to determine if a SERDES link is to long as in the traces are too long ?

Refer to the manufacturer's recommendations

45 degree is still ok.
Too long depends on the losses. That depends on the material used.

at what frequency rounding does start to be a requirement?

Juriy Shlepnev made a LinkedIn post on this once. From what I recall rounded traces were no benefit up to 25GHz, sometimes even worse then 45° angles.

a no not even close to my 10GHz, only aestetics are better but harder to edit from what i see

I have done a number of videos about routing very high speed signals, you can have a look here: https://youtu.be/ERvQeln9l-g?si=Xp21bJn-Uqr3cC_p
