Multi Page Schematic Issues

njcochrane , 09-16-2025, 08:28 PM
Hello, I am working on a design in Altium. I am familiar with Altium now and have done a few board spins successfully. I am now attempting to use a multi page schematic due to the sheer number of components on this layout (200+). I am having issues getting Nets and Ports to connect across different schematic sheets.

I have tried Hierarchical and Global for the Net Identifier Scope, neither works the way I am expecting.

Here is an example of a simple multi sheet connection (PH3) I am trying to make. I have the connection from the processor named as Net PH3, connected though a sheet symbol, to the secondary schematic page. I have tried this with ports, sheet symbols, nets, all to no avail. Is there some fundamental understanding that I am missing? Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

no rat on the pins

update: by manually assigning the Net on another page it does seem to make the connection, but id still like to understand how to utilize the sheet symbols and ports without manually renaming the nets. I may not always want to use the global net identifier

you may need to check your schematic properties / options. there are settings that describe how Altium should interpret nets between pages.

right, and because I have all my nets as global this fix is working. But im still not sure why the sheet symbol is not working across schematic sheets. I explicitly named it the same but it is still not connecting them

there is a singular setting (Net Identifier Scope) that i altered (to global). Is there another I should be also adjusting?

How I do this (and how I believe Altium intends for it to be done?) is that I use the "Automatic (Based on project content)" option in the Net Identifier Scope setting in Project Options, and then I always have a top level schematic that connects all my different sub-sheets.

So this is what one of my top level schematic sheets look like for example:

Did you validate the project?

Yes. I ended up just using Net identifiers and setting everything to gloabl because this project is fairly time sensitive. When I tried blocking it all out as shown above it was still giving me the same error.

For now ill just keep global settings and use the net function as well as the ports. Tedious but it works.
