PDN analysis, 250A, VRM, ASIC
Shoaib Mustafa , 02-18-2026, 03:04 PM
I am currently working on a project which requires PDN analysis for an ASIC board with multiphase VRMS. It needs specific impedence target and operates at >250A with 0.78V and transient current at 30-40A. I'll be honest I don't know the first thing when it comes to PDN analysis. I've been reading up on it and seems like I will need a software. Before I jump into simulation I'd like to understand what goes on behind it and would like to learn how to do some calculations by hand and then simulation software. Since the VDD geometry spans 3 layer and there are alot of vias to consider I was also looking for a method to simulate 3D vias included simulation of current distribution, IR drop. etc. I'd be very thankful if I could get some guidance on the subject matter either in the form of articles, books, or if you could point me in the right direction. I have seen roberts video with Lukas Henkal but i faced an issue there. The actual requirements of the project: DC Droop: 6–10 mV at 225–250 A, 4-wire Kelvin method. • Zout: ≤ 0.3–0.6 mΩ from 10 kHz to 5 MHz; no peaks exceeding +20% of nominal. • Control Loop Stability: Phase margin ≥ 50°, gain margin ≥ 8 dB. • Transient Response: ±30–50 A step, ≤ 200 ns edge → ΔV ≤ 30 mV, settling < 50 µs. • Ripple (VCORE): ≤ 6 mVrms and ≤ 20 mVpp, 20 MHz bandwidthPlease note that the board is made in kicad already and i must make the changes there. Its not a design from scratch. Warm RegardsShoaib Mustafa

I have been studying Eric but he mostly focuses on SI instead of Power integrity. But thanks for sharing the links. I am looking into it right now.

Without PI there is no SI.But yes, Eric is way less with PI compared to the other 3 I mentioned.
