I am a big proponent for 4 way junction **where **they make the schematic more clear.
However, in your first picture all the columns and rows are connected together and you gave them in total 24 different names.
In the second picture the row and columns are at different ends of the diodes. However, still multiple names for names.
Using names like Column1 and Row3 is good.
