PCI Express Pinout Resources?

Hi,
I'm looking to build a simple board that has a 16x PCIe connector, that seats a compatible PCIe video card.
I can find the connectors and create a footprint, on the board.
I am not certain on signal routing both between the mating connector and the PCIe card, and then what card signals.
What is good resource to learn the what each line is doing, and how you route them for a motherboard?
I'm not super concerned about the actual protocol, so not necessarily the official PCI spec -- just nuts and bolts implementation.
I know Altium provides templates, but I'm more interested in what signal goes where. Which signals get routed on a motherboard, and where do they terminate (does it go the CPU or some other controller that interfaces with a CPU, etc...).

Reference design of the chip (CPU, FPGA, ... ) to which you will be connecting the PCIE video card should include CPU to PCIE slot connection.
